Raktimava (Riju) Ghosh Dastidar is a Photographer from Kolkata, India, and an MFA candidate in Art with a concentration in Photography in University of Oregon, Eugene, US.
His thesis expands on the interaction between the metaphysical gestures of forms and their concerns in exterior landscape and interior psychological phenomenon.
Reflecting austerity, banality and a deferral of the inner immediate landscape and consciousness, his images of familiarity and estrangement, home and displacement, explores a dialectic between gaze and mis-recognition that resides on the periphery of family photographs which flattens and suppresses the labor of the performers, reducing the totality into objects of sublimity in knowledge faculty. This argument enhances and also opens up space to reconstruct the narrative of "familiarity" which has been explored in modernity in the name of "vernacular snapshots" addressing everyday.
Re-enforcing the fallibility and indeterminacy of photographs as documents, his work argues the very faculty of the limit of knowledge resides on the fallible factor to evoke a sense of relational theory, both in reality and in representational medium.
Riju has participated in various exhibitions in Kolkata including a solo exhibition in NYC Phoenix Gallery in 2020. His works are exhibited and collected in the Praxis Gallery Minneapolis and Lightbox gallery, Astoria, Oregon in 2025 in the US and online exhibition platforms like VAA and VAO.
He has received his BA in Art and MA in Philosophy from Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi, India
